George Strait, the King of Country Music will visit BOK Center on June 1 and 2, 2018 for “Strait Down Route 66,” an exclusive one night engagement in Oklahoma presented by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. The concert is the first show announced for BOK Center’s “10 for 10” concert series in 2018, a planned celebration that will feature ten blockbuster artists commemorating the arena’s tenth anniversary.
In 2012, Strait shocked his fans when he announced that he was retiring from touring at a press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame revealing that his 'The Cowboy Rides Away Tour that' year would be his farewell tour. Since then, Strait has played only a handful of shows including a highly acclaimed sold-out residency at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this year and a special Hurricane Harvey relief benefit this past week at San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre which helped raise millions of dollars for individuals affected by the storms in Texas.
“Strait Down Route 66” at BOK Center will be one of the artist’s rare live performances slated for 2018 and one of only two arena shows planned. The show will feature many of Strait’s 60 number one hits like “Amarillo By Morning,” “Check Yes Or No,” and “Troubadour,” songs that have become iconic anthems for generations of country music fans. Western swing band Asleep At The Wheel will provide support for the evening.
George Strait’s last visit to Oklahoma was for a sold-out show on his farewell tour at BOK Center on April 19, 2014. His tour stops at the arena in 2010, 2012, and 2014 were three of the most highly-attended events in the venue’s history, each averaging nearly 19,000 fans. 'Strait Down Route 66' will arguably be the biggest country show of the year in the State of Oklahoma in 2018.
